dBeautifier beta 4

So as usual I have been hard at work… When I’m not playing WoW that is ;) I have a working version of dBeautifier beta 4 for Wordpress 2.2 as I stated before I have taken away some of the features and have changed others.

Demo:

[download]Demo File;This is just an example;http://binslashbash.org/examplefile.zip;/home/binslash/www/example.zip;[/download]

I have standerized a lot of things and there is no need for its own table in the db anymore. However I am still debaiting if I am going to count the number of downloads again. I just don’t think that that function really added anything to the plugin. However who knows I might bring it back.

All the styling is done in the dbeautify.css file in the plugins directory, also I have standerized a generic icon, no need for an icon table either, it’s also located in the plugins directory called download.png users feel free to change this to anything you like. I would suggest you stick with the size however 48px X 48px.

So I am hoping some people will download this plugin then shoot over to the binslashbash.org forums and leave me some quality feedback. ;) Thanks guys.

Syntax:
Syntax for the new plugin is as follows:
[download]Download Title;Download Description;
http://www.mysite.com/path/download.zip;/home/username/path/download.zip;[/download]

Hang on a second… if the syntax is changed, will we still be able to use the old plugin as well? If we can’t, then we’ll have to go through all our old posts and change the syntax to suit the new syntax :(

Oh well, worth it for a kickass plugin! :-)

  • J. Newing on June 25th, 2007 @ 8:55 am

Tom I think the syntax is the same.. No? If it’s not let me know what it was and I would be more than happy to tweak it accordingly.

  • Tom Bammann on July 11th, 2007 @ 7:55 am

    Hey J, the old syntax was http://domain.com;/path/to/file/file.jpeg;Title;

I look forward to it :)

  • Tom Bammann on July 11th, 2007 @ 7:57 am

Hang on a second, the comment just stripped me of code.

As I was trying to type, …

    http|//domain.com;/path/to/file.jpg;Title;

  • Tom Bammann on July 11th, 2007 @ 7:58 am

okay it still didn’t work, but just add the download tag with triangular brackets on each end of the above code line and that is what the old syntax is :)

  • J. Newing on July 11th, 2007 @ 8:18 am

    Haha no worries mate.

    <download>http://domain.com;/path/to/file.zip;Title;</download>

    like that?

I have uploaded the plugin and cannot activate it, it displayed message “plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error” any idea how to solve this? TQ

  • J. Newing on July 27th, 2007 @ 8:38 am

    Azmie,

To help you I would need some more information like what version of Wordpress are you running is it the latest version of dBeautifier?

  • azmie on July 27th, 2007 @ 9:24 am

I’m using wordpress 2.2. And yes I installed the latest version dbeautifier plugin, the beta 4. But when I tried to activate it displayed a fatal error message like I mentioned before this.

  • Tom Bammann on July 28th, 2007 @ 4:59 am

    Joseph,

Yeah that’s the correct syntax as it was in 3.4 (Sorry I took so long to reply.)

    Cheers,
    Tom

    hey,

Im using wp 2.2 and installed the plugin. But cant seem to make it work. Don’t know if i did something wrong using the syntax.

    Here’s what i wrote

    [download]Dbeautifuler;Dbeautifuler beta 4;http://binslashbash.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/dbeautifier_beta4.zip;[/download]

tried with but still dont work

    Please help :)

  • myreview on August 2nd, 2007 @ 5:35 am

allright forget what i said, i get the same error as J.Newig, when activating the plugin: Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

I’ll try deactivate other plugins to see if it is one of them that may cause the problem.

  • myreview on August 2nd, 2007 @ 5:36 am

Ok, even after deactivating all my plugins i still get the error. Is your plugin compatible with wp 2.2 ? :)

  • Chris on August 6th, 2007 @ 4:44 pm

Hi. I’m using DBeautifier 3 for quite a while now and I think you should implement the counter-option in version 4.

    Keep up the good work.

    Hello Joseph,
Thanks for working on this great plugin, I hope that you will release the new version soon. I have implemented some rudimentary statistics & a slightly improved download.php on an old v3.0 installation I use on my site.
You can check them at Adding extended download statistics in download beautifier (dBeautifier) plugin

    Keep up the good work!

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

    Anyone else get the same?

  • Snakehit on September 4th, 2007 @ 9:37 am

yes, same here. I wanted to upgrade the version and continu the error “Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”

  • Sushitronic on September 12th, 2007 @ 10:58 am

Same problem with Tom Bammann… I installed the plugin and activated it, it works (no fatal errors) but the syntax don’t work. Even in code mode. The source code show me

    [download]Dbeautifuler;Dbeautifuler beta 4;http://binslashbash.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/dbeautifier_beta4.zip;[/download]

… I’m using wordpress 2.2.2 for information. (sorry for my english )

  • alex on October 14th, 2007 @ 6:39 am

Hi Snakehit and Tom Bammann, I’ve just downloaded this plugin and i had the same problems at first. But the doc is a bit missleading because ALL fealds are required(the regex breakes if not)!

So the syntax must be :
    [download]header;description;http://site.org/path/to/file.zip;/full/path/to/file.zip;[/download]

I guess the sulotion is to do a better regex search, but i’ll leave this to mr.J.N ;)

Also it wold be great with a download counter

    Joseph,
Just wondering if you had any plans to move this out of beta? Are you still working on wordpress plugins these days? I’m guessing you’re mostly doing paid work :-)
